**ΤΑ ΑΓΡΙΑ ΑΛΟΓΑ ΤΗΣ ΚΕΦΑΛΟΝΙΑΣ ΧΡΕΙΑΖΟΝΤΑΙ ΤΗ ΒΟΗΘΕΙΑ ΜΑΣ**
Στην Κεφαλονιά ζουν σήμερα περίπου 100–130 ανεπιτήρητα άλογα και ο αριθμός τους αυξάνεται σταθερά. Χωρίς οργανωμένη διαχείριση και πρόγραμμα στειρώσεων, η κατάσταση γίνεται ολοένα πιο δύσκολα ελεγχόμενη.
**Δύο άλογα έχουν πυροβοληθεί**
Έχουν καταγραφεί δύο ξεχωριστά περιστατικά πυροβολισμού αλόγων — το ένα σε κατοικημένη περιοχή στα Χιονάτα. Έχει σχηματιστεί δικογραφία και τα περιστατικά διερευνώνται από τις αρμόδιες αρχές. Μιλάμε για ζώα που κινούνται ελεύθερα κοντά σε χωριά, σπίτια και δρόμους: ο κίνδυνος δεν αφορά μόνο τα άλογα.
**Ποιοι είμαστε**
Αδέσποτα Εν Δράσει Ελλάδα (Αρ. Μητρώου 711/2025), νόμιμα αναγνωρισμένο φιλοζωικό σωματείο. Όλες οι δωρεές χρησιμοποιούνται αποκλειστικά για τις ανάγκες των ζώων και συνοδεύονται από τα νόμιμα παραστατικά.
**Τι έχουμε ήδη κάνει**
Με δικά μας έξοδα καλέσαμε ειδικό στη διαχείριση ιπποειδών, ο οποίος επισκέφθηκε την περιοχή, κατέγραψε τον πληθυσμό και βοήθησε στη διαμόρφωση ενός πρακτικού σχεδίου: σίτιση μακριά από τους δρόμους, ασφαλείς χώροι και πρόγραμμα στειρώσεων. Διαπίστωσε ότι περίπου τα δύο τρίτα του πληθυσμού είναι φοράδες και προέβλεψε ραγδαία αύξηση αν δεν γίνει τίποτα.
Η πρόταση κατατέθηκε επίσημα στην Περιφέρεια (αρ. πρωτ. 24306-2026). Μέχρι σήμερα δεν έχει προχωρήσει η εφαρμογή της.
Στο μεταξύ, εθελοντές μεταφέρουν καθημερινά τροφή και νερό στα άλογα στην περιοχή Ελειού–Πρόννων, με δικά τους έξοδα και προσωπική εργασία.

**THE WILD HORSES OF KEFALONIA NEED YOUR HELP**
If you are visiting Kefalonia this summer, you may see them by the roadside: around 100–130 free-roaming horses live on the island, and the number keeps growing. Without proper management and a sterilisation programme, the situation is becoming harder to control every month.
**Two horses have been shot**
There have been two separate shooting incidents involving these horses — one of them in a residential area at Chionata. A criminal case file has been opened and both incidents are under investigation by the authorities. These animals move freely near villages, homes and roads, so this is not only a danger to the horses.
**If you see the horses**
Please keep your distance, do not feed them at the roadside, and drive slowly on rural roads at dusk and after dark. If you find an injured horse or witness an incident, message us on this page.
**Who we are**
Strays in Action Greece / Αδέσποτα Εν Δράσει Ελλάδα (Reg. No. 711/2025), a legally registered non-profit animal welfare organisation. All donations are used exclusively for animal welfare and are properly documented with legal receipts.
**What we have already done**
At our own expense, we brought in an equine management specialist who assessed the population on site and helped us design a practical plan: safe feeding away from roads, designated safe areas, and a sterilisation programme. He found that roughly two thirds of the population are mares, and warned that numbers will rise sharply if nothing is done.
The proposal was formally submitted to the regional authorities (ref. no. 24306-2026). It has still not been implemented.
In the meantime, volunteers carry food and water to the horses in the Elios–Pronnoi area every single day, at their own expense.
